We all are aware of the cost of a wrong hire, but do we really understand the impact? There are numerous articles out there that spell out the astronomical amount of money companies spend on wrong hires ranging from $240,000 to $850,000 per hire!  What we all know is it is costly and should not happen. So, how do you make sure it doesn’t happen?  Here’s how:

Just like we take tons of time to evaluate our company suppliers, manufacturing distributors, produced products, marketing channels, how we ship, who we work with, all of it comes down to our partners to make the business prosper and grow. Companies put so much emphasis on making sure the product development, selling and distribution of product is all in order, yet when it comes to partnering with a search firm, not so much and there is no business rationale for that. That is like open your window and throw money out. Let it fly away. Some companies do it well, and care enough to get the right search vendor, but there still exists many that do not. Shame on them.

Understanding Culture ~

As referenced in my book, HR BullCrap! it is imperative that leaders, HR professionals, and all hiring managers ensure that the partners selected to assist in hiring are a fit, produce, are top notch, ethical, care, and ultimately – understand your culture. When I was leading Human Resources for a company for several years, I personally led both the due diligence of interviewing search firms as well as the final selection. I can assure you that the great ones are few and far between. And I mean great. As HR leaders, we should accept nothing less than a great executive search partner. You wouldn’t regarding other vendors.

I have known Chris Fryer for the majority of my business career and his ability to understand our specific culture, the business, our industry, the current needs and more importantly future needs based on skills and growth of company was unsurpassed. Chris was able to search out and find the right talent needed at the right time because of that cultural understanding. His track record, compassionate awareness of the organization’s integral workings was why the partnership grew and lasted. He performed at a level we rarely experienced with other search firms. I feel lucky and honored to have connected and partnered with him on several critical executive searches.

The importance of hiring the right talent should be on every single company strategy and should be valued.  Number 1 – get the right people by utilizing search partners who get it.  Chris does. You cannot afford not to.
